Local, Green, and Fair Snapshot Campaign: Meet Commonwealth Energy

SBN’s Snapshot campaign features members of SBN that are local, green, and fair within the greater Boston community. The Snapshot campaign seeks to illustrate the transition from the start of the business or organization - all the way to where it is now, as well as what lessons can be learned along the way. We want to highlight the unique core values of each business or organization and showcase why they are important members of SBN.

One of Commonwealth Energy’s projects

Commonwealth Energy provides home repair and solar energy services to households in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Wisconsin. They aim to make the world a better place, one home at a time by allowing homeowners to go solar, save money on their monthly bills, and increase their overall home value!

Commonwealth Energy guarantees satisfaction for their customers due to their licensed, certified, and insured crew, all in one roofing and solar services, and industry best financing available on all projects. The business became a member of SBN as a part of their expansion efforts and their mission to promote their services by emphasizing a message of sustainability as the driving force behind the decision to install solar panels in one’s home.

The founder and CEO of Commonwealth Energy, Vincent Longtin, hopes to differentiate this company from other solar providers by implementing a climate change and sustainable development messaging strategy, as opposed to solely focusing on the long term cost benefits of solar panel installation.

The solar provider’s largest consumer market is in Massachusetts, due in part to statewide incentives such as the SMART credit programs. Under the SMART program, homeowners and businesses that have installed solar panel systems are paid a flat rate by state utility companies (National Grid, Eversource, Unitil) for the electricity their PV (photovoltaic) panels produce.

Vincent hopes to see more states across the country adopt initiatives like the SMART program to incentivize homeowners to install solar panels. He hopes to expand Commonwealth Energy and its services to as many states as possible and break into the commercial services market, as well.

Ultimately, Commonwealth Energy aims to do right by their employees and all the clients they provide services for by displaying how solar energy can serve a cause for the greater good, by having a positive impact on the environment in a time of uncertainty and instability posed by the climate change crisis.
