 What is Hyper-Local Craft Brewfest?

Hyper-Local Craft Brewfest is an annual tasting fundraiser presented by Sustainable Business Network of Massachusetts (SBN) that highlights and promotes local brewers of beer, newly established breweries, cider & mead, artisan beverage makers, and local food vendors.

Hyper-Local Craft Brewfest is a unique event that not only showcases local beverage producers, but also showcases local brews incorporating local ingredients. SBN’s definition of local starts in Massachusetts and encompasses all of New England. Hyper-Local means local producers (from New England) making products with ingredients from New England. Examples in the past have included brews made with local hops, apples, cranberries, grapes and even local oysters. While having unlimited 2oz tastings from local brewers, you can also sample and purchase delicious local food from local vendors for $6 or less.

What makes Friday night special?
Join us on Friday night for Hyper-Local Craft Brewfest with a special Beer on Cask Tasting “conditioned” by Randy Baril, Head Cellarman of NERAX (the New England Real Ale eXhibition). Try unfiltered and unpasteurized beer with no nitrogen or carbon dioxide added! Compare with the commercial version and tell us which one you love. The Showcase, also featuring a Small Batches Jamboree, will open dialogues between craft brewers, brew fans, and the curious-minded to experiment and learn what is available in the New England region for making their products. Attendees will also have an opportunity to learn more about making small batches and homebrewing. Additionally, attendees will get the chance to interact with other aspiring brewers, hear from experts, and taste a selection of the brews that will be showcased during the Saturday Sessions.

What is cask-conditioned beer?

Cask-conditioned beer is unfiltered and unpasteurised beer which is conditioned (including secondary fermentation) and served from a cask without additional nitrogen or carbon dioxide pressure. [1] Cask-conditioned beer served at Hyper-Local Craft Brewfest will be brewed by selected participating local breweries, who will also bring store bought versions to sample at the event.

SBN Boston Local Food Program
This event is a celebration of local craft brews in conjunction with SBN’s Boston Local Food Programs. The goal of SBN’s Boston Local Food Program is to transform the local food system by raising awareness about the abundance of wonderful locally grown and produced products in Massachusetts and New England and by encouraging individual consumers, food and beverage producers, and vendors to think local first. Hyper-Local Craft Brewfest presents a great opportunity to build the bridge between local producers and consumers of craft brews in advancing the local food system.

What’s included with admission price?

  • Cask-conditioned beer from selected local brewers on Friday only
  • Small batches and special brews from selected vendors on all sessions
  • Unlimited tastings from our participating brewers, craft brewers, cideries, meaderies, artisan beverage vendors

Leadership = Relationship: Leading Small Businesses & Organizations @ SBN Boardroom
Jun 15 @ 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

6.15.B2B.WebLeading your business or organization and building relationships with your employees is crucial for success. Beth Shapiro from Sustainable Success will lead an interactive workshop and give you tips for how to manage and lead your business and put you on the path to success.

In organizations, results rely on relationships. That’s what an organization is: a collection of interconnected, interdependent relationships among employees, customers, and more. If you are a leader, you are in relationship with those you lead—and it’s this relationship that is at the heart of getting the work done.

In this session, we’ll talk about how to create relationships that are 3 things—strong, strategic, and flexible.

  • Strong so that everyone is fully engaged and participating
  • Strategic so that organization can plan and execute systemically, not compartmentally
  • Flexible so that you and your team have the structure, skill and muscle needed to respond quickly to continuous change

This will be a small, interactive workshop with time for questions and networking!

Making the Business Case for A New England Food Vision: Creating Conditions that Support Diverse Food-Related Enterprises @ SBN Boardroom
Jun 30 @ 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Food Solutions New England Presents:http://www.foodsolutionsne.org“>
Making the Business Case for A New England Food Vision: Creating Conditions that Support Diverse Food-related Enterprises

Profitable food-related businesses are integral to the New England Food Vision. The Vision describes a future in which at least 50% of the food consumed in our region is grown, raised, caught, and harvested in the region by 2060 (“50 by 60”); sustainable farming and fishing provide healthy food for all; and racial equity and food justice promote dignity and quality of life in thriving communities across New England. A resilient and expanding network of diverse enterprises, operating at different scales across the food system, will be key to achieving this Vision.

Members of the Food Solutions New England network’s Core Team will lead an interactive discussion with local business leaders. We will learn from businesses who are already contributing to the “50 by 60” Vision as well as those who are considering how they can get involved. We will explore critical questions including: What do businesses need to be successful in the emerging New England food system? What kinds of state, local, and federal policies would make success for existing and new enterprises most likely and attract more entrepreneurs and resources? How can the Food Solutions New England network join forces with the Sustainable Business Network and other business and economic development networks to develop shared goals and strategies for collaboration?
